Churches and TBCH

“Let the little children come to Me and do not hinder them.”

“You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”

These words of Jesus from the Bible are taken seriously by churches and individual Christians. These verses also define the important partnership between churches and Tennessee Baptist Children's Homes in caring for children in need.

How important are the gifts, prayers, and work projects of churches for the Children's Homes?

All of the ways churches are involved at TBCH help to provide the operating funds necessary to help children in need. With an annual operating budget of approximately $6,500,000, every church gift and every cent given by church members is vitally important!

Consider this:

  • To teach the children in our care Christian values without restriction, Tennessee Baptist Children's Homes does not accept government funding. Therefore, TBCH is dependent on the gifts of churches to provide homes in 7 locations statewide for children.

  • Each year, the Mother's Day Offering collected in honor and memory of donor's families at over 2,000 churches in Tennessee provides approximately 35% of the funds needed to care for the children.

  • Tennessee Baptist churches send a portion of their weekly offerings to the Tennessee Baptist Convention each year through the Cooperative Program, the national giving plan of the Southern Baptist Convention.

  • Woman's Missionary Union, the national and state women's mission organization of the Southern Baptist Convention, was instrumental in founding Tennessee Baptist Children’s Homes. Each year WMU groups around the state are actively involved in promoting the Mother's Day Offering and collecting canned/boxed food and supplies for the children of TBCH.

  • Hundreds of pounds of food and household supplies are collected for the children of TBCH each year by churches through the Kans 4 Kids programs. These household supplies and food save the Childrens Homes hundreds of dollars each year.

  • Bible study classes, men's organizations, and other church groups also help TBCH by volunteering their time to complete work projects at the Children's Homes such as carpentry, painting, and landscaping. Completing work like this saves the Children's Homes thousands of dollars.

We are thankful to the many Tennessee churches who pray for the children, our staff, and our ministry and for those whose financial gifts literally give children a hand up--not a hand out.

Does your church help support TBCH? If so, we are grateful to you. Please consider other ways you can help aTBCH child know God's love. If not, please encourage your church leaders and Bible study classes to consider making a financial gift to TBCH to help bring smiles to the faces of hurting children.
